Gustave Dore (1832-1883). The Power of the Imagination, Paris

Exhibition of one of the most exciting artists of the 19th century will be held in France in the Museum d'Orsay. This is the first retrospective of the outstanding French engraver, painter, illustrator and sculptor - Gustave Dore.
Even in the age of ten he made illustrations for "The Divine Comedy" by Dante, and with fifteen years of self-taught artist began to hit others with their talent for art, he has illustrated more than a hundred masterpieces of world literature, including the works of Cervantes, Shakespeare, Hugo, Balzac, tale by Charles Perrault and many others. One of the greatest creations by Gustave Dore are 230 illustrations, prints the Bible.
Artist's creative heritage is 9850 different illustrations, 51 lithographs, 283 works executed in watercolor, drawing 582, 45 sculptures and 133 paintings, but it is not a complete list of his works.
In the permanent collection of the Musee d'Orsay is a painting of "Mystery" (1871), the scope of which is admired by his contemporaries - 1.3 meters in height and 1 95 wide.
