Lascaux

Lascaux is located in Montignac Dordogne 45 minutes southwest of Brive-la-Gaillarde and 55 minutes from Perigueux. Discovered by two young children in 1940, this cave is exceptional. It is home to beautiful and huge prehistoric paintings dating from about 17,000 years. 

Today the cave is closed to the public for reasons of conservations paintings 200m but by a perfect replica called Lascaux 2 was created to allow visitors to admire these works of art. You will find the Hall of Bulls, the Axial Gallery as well as the Felines and all others which are in the original site.

To get to Montignac there bus line 8 from Brive-la-Gaillarde or Perigueux but also the line 7 from Sarlat.
