Hospices de Beaune

Hospices de Beaune is a medieval hotel for the poor, the well-preserved to this day. They were built on the orders of the Duke of Burgundy, Nicolas Rolin in 1443. These hospices has been a relief for citizens who suffered from cold and hunger after the devastating Hundred Years War.
For construction hospices Nicolas Rolin hooked best architects and artisans of the city, which created a unique palace with Gothic facade and rich interior.
Since its inception and until the early 20th century, took a huge number of hospice patients. In 1971, all the staff and patients of the hospital were moved to a more modern building. However, until the present time in the hospice conduct extensive wine auction, which attracts lovers of this drink from around the world.
