House of La Boétie

House of La Boétie

The native home of Étienne de La Boétie, French writer and poet of the sixteenth century, is located in Sarlat-la-Caneda in the Dordogne 1 hour southwest of Brive-la-Gaillarde.

La Maison de La Boétie, which is originally a hotel, is a beautiful building whose architecture is inspired by the Italian Renaissance Florentine. It is also the only building of its kind in Sarlat. This is the most famous monument of the city. Its facade is beautifully decorated by ornaments and stained glass windows.

To get to Sarlat bus transport through the Dordogne there is line 7 from line 6 or Périgueux from Souillac. The train also stops at Sarlat from Périgueux or Bergerac.
