Place Massena

Place Massena

Constituting the center of Nice, this place is spacious and colorful, it represents well the heat of south-eastern France. From one end to the other there is the Rue Massena and Rue de l'Opera. Its construction started between the years 1820-1830 and was named after André Massena, Nice French Marshal of origin. This is an original architectural complex of buildings surrounded by red and mounted on arcades. You can admire the statue of Apollo, 7m high and towering over 5 representations of planets. All is the magnificent fountain of the Sun.
Place Massena was founded to be a gathering place in Nice and this is even more the case today because it is part of a particular focal point for the annual carnival in the city. But we can also see various events throughout the year.
The site is crossed by tram 1 serving including Thiers station as well as bus 4 and 17.
